Designing Your Netball Dress: What to Consider

When it comes to designing your netball dress, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from. These decisions will help create a look that truly represents your team's identity.

Custom kits are becoming increasingly popular in the netball world, as teams recognize the value of a design that reflects their unique brand. In this blog, we’ll walk you through the different options and their benefits, so you can find the best fit for your team—literally and figuratively!

Racerback vs. Standard Back

Your first decision is choosing between a racerback or standard back design.

In netball, these terms refer to how the back of the dress is cut. A standard back dress has two shoulder straps that run parallel and connect at the top, with the back of the dress cutting straight across the middle.

A racerback dress, on the other hand, features straps that join in a V-shape between the shoulder blades, exposing more of the upper back. This design offers greater freedom of movement, which can be a big advantage for players who need extra mobility in the shoulders.

The choice between racerback and standard back ultimately comes down to personal preference and the specific needs of your team.

Colour & Design

Once you've decided on the back style, it’s time to dive into the fun part: design and colour!

To make the process easier, you'll often find templates to inspire your dress design. You can customize these templates with your club's colors to make the dress truly your own. Depending on the design you choose, you can even incorporate multiple colors to make your team stand out. The Serious Sport 3D Kit Designer

With Serious Sport’s 3D Kit Designer, you have 25 design templates to choose from for your netball dresses. If none of these templates feel quite right, their in-house design team is ready to help you create something unique.

If you have a previous design you'd like to replicate, they can do that too—just keep in mind there might be slight differences. For the closest match, send us an item of your old kit, and they'll do their best to recreate it.

Fabric Choice

Next up is fabric selection—a key decision that affects both the fit and durability of your netball dress.

At Serious Sport, they offer two main fabric options: Club 180 and Pro 230.

  • Club 180: This midweight fabric is perfect for a variety of sports garments, including netball dresses. It has a slightly open weave for better breathability, helping you stay cool even during the most intense games.

  • Pro 230: This is a high-stretch, high-density knit fabric, similar to what you’ll see in the Netball Superleague. Its stretchability and density provide a snug, supportive fit, ideal for players looking for flexibility and durability in their athletic wear.

Length of Dress

Finally, consider the length of your netball dress. You can choose from three options: short, regular, and long. The short length is two inches shorter than the regular, while the long length adds two inches for those who prefer more coverage.

With all these choices, you're well on your way to designing a netball dress that makes your team look—and feel—unstoppable!
